Women and girls whose male family members have been killed held captive by Islamic State terrorists
Let me start by saying that every death in Gaza is regrettable and probably avoidable. However, it is too easy to blame Israel because they are the aggressor. There is a great deal of evidence online that indicates that Hamas have been engineering the situation by firing missiles from sensitive residential areas in order to cause the maximum collateral damage for the Israeli return fire. Thus far in the Gaza conflict, latest reports are that 1,911 Palestinians have died. I don’t want to create the impression that I am gratuitously comparing the scores of deaths because I am not, but there is a validity in saying: why haven’t the 150,000 well-meaning folk in the London protest about the Gaza deaths protested equally in numbers and volume about the deaths of innocents in Iraq and Syria?
It is nothing short of shameful that people see fit to protest about Israel and its involvement in Gaza, when the Hamas Charter states: “our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious” and calls for the eventual creation of an Islamic state in Palestine, in place of Israel and the Palestinian Territories and the obliteration or dissolution of Israel as its objective. Hamas is an Islamist terrorist organisation. It recently carried out an extra-judicial execution to one of its chiefs-of-staff, Ayman Taha, in an act more reminiscent of the Mafia than the supposedly righteous Muslims they claim to be.
Nevertheless, I am inclined to the view that Israel has overreacted to the deaths of the three Israeli teenagers that was the cause of this current conflict, but I also note that the Palestinians – or Hamas – have continually broken cease-fire arrangements and inflamed the situation to the detriment of the population of Gaza. Israel’s military strategy has certainly been an own goal in a public relations sense, but there is much anecdotal evidence to suggest that Hamas has driven this onslaught towards its people.
Why have the Western countries, in particular Britain, forsaken the people of Syria and Iraq? Is it worse to imagine that a neighbouring force has murdered innocent men, women and children than an incumbent fascist autocrat? Does the sight of ISIS waving the severed heads of innocents about warrant even a squeak of protest? Millions of people have now been displaced, hundreds of thousands have died and the Christian and Yazidi minorities have been forced to flee to escape genocide, leaving them subject to death by thirst or starvation. Today brought the news that Jihadist militia from the Islamic State have kidnapped hundreds of women and young girls from Iraq’s Yazidi religious minority. Vian Dakhil, an Iraqi MP from the Yazidi community told the Iraqi parliament Tuesday:
Dakhil’s description is not an isolated report as there is a further anecdotal evidence of the rape and pillage from a report by Christiana Patto of the Assyrian Aid Society of Iraq:
“Yesterday 45 children died of thirst. Some families throw their children from the top of Sinjar mountain in order not to see them die from hunger or thirst, or not to be taken by the terrorists. 1500 men were killed in front of their wives and families, 50 old men died also from thirst and illness. More than 70 girl and women including Christians were taken, raped and being captured and sold.”
Like Boko Haram, it seems likely that these women will be the spoils of war for their Jihadists’ needs: And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. Qur’an 4:24
Despite all of this, our good and great turn out to protest about what is going on in Gaza, but ignore the even larger catastrophe that is perpetrated elsewhere in the region?
If your cause was humanitarian, why aren’t you waving placards and shouting about what the atrocities the Islamic State are committing in Iraq?
